AUSTIN ZINE LIBRARY LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS Come down to the Austin Zine Library on the Eastside and help look after 2,000 zines. Volunteers will help organize zines, facilitate check-ins (and outs), and generally watch over the place. They also need help passing out fliers and pamphlets around town. Join host Jim Gramon, author of Legendary Texas Storytellers, as professional storytellers compete for the title of Austin’s Biggest Liar. Judges this year are: Father Jordan Brown, Liz Carpenter, John Kelso, Ben Rehder, Chip Somerville, and David Zuniga. Competing Liars this year are: Ben Benford, Roy Chapman, Donna Ingham, Doc Moore, Sheila Phillips, Ellen Reid Smith, Phillip T. Stephens, Elder Stone, and Bobby Tucker. Literacy Austin is having an event: Marsha Moyer, author of The Second Coming of Lucy Hatch and The Last of the Honky-tonk Angels, and Ben Rehder, author of Buck Fever, Bone Dry, Flat Crazy will be at Westlake Barnes & Noble, Friday February 11, 2005, 7:00 p.m. The topic for discussion is: the role of Texan characters in fiction and stereotypes of these characters.
